Others need something physical to keep pace with. That&#8217;s where Puma&#8217;s BeatBot comes in. Developed by a NASA robotics engineer, a trio of MIT students and Puma&#8217;s ad agency, the robot follows lines around a track at any pace you&#8217;d want, according <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastcocreate.com\/3059417\/puma-created-a-robot-as-fast-as-usain-bolt-to-make-athletes-better\">to <em>Fast Company<\/em><\/a>. It can even match <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2015\/01\/05\/gibson-trainer-headphones-usain-bolt\/\">Usain Bolt&#8217;s<\/a> 2009 foot-speed world record of 44.6 KPH (27.7 MPH) in case you need something a little more aspirational than an eight-minute mile.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"js-notMobileReferredByFbTw\">\n<div class=\"o-article_block pb-15 pb-5@m- mt-n35 mt-n25@m mt-n15@s\">\n<div class=\"grid@tl+\">\n<div class=\"full-width@tp- grid@tl+__cell col-8-of-12@tl+\">\n<div class=\"article-text c-gray-1 no-review\">\n<p>The robot works by scanning lines on the track with an array of nine IR sensors, while wheel rotations are monitored <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2015\/07\/28\/arduino-basic-diy-kit\/\">via Arduino<\/a> to keep track of speed and distance. BeatBot&#8217;s also outfitted with LED lights on the back and dual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2016\/02\/04\/gopro-hero5-confirmed\/\">GoPro cameras<\/a>. If you figured this would be expensive, you&#8217;re right. Even though there isn&#8217;t an exact price, for now, BeatBot will only be offered to Puma-sponsored teams and athletes.
